Day One of Young Pretender Rehearsals

Hello! My name's Charlie and I'm the production assistant for our very exciting Edinburgh Fringe Show - Young Pretender, written by E V Crowe.

I'll be trying to keep you all in the loop with our rehearsals and let you know how it's going. You'll be happy to hear - the first day showed real promise!

The Cast and Crew all had a bit of a meet and greet, including the wonderful folk at the Watford Palace Theatre (where we're residents), before taking part in the first read-through.

The cast showed real skill, delivering a reading which could easily be confused with one weeks into rehearsals. It's going to be a really exciting piece to develop and we cannot wait to take it to Edinbrugh in a months time.

We also had the wonderful Dr Eveline Cruickshanks come in to give us a talk about Bonnie Prince Charlie (whom the play is based around) and give us a real insight into the Jacobean cause and the general world that surrounds the play.

Imagine a years worth of history covered in one hour, and that comes close to the detail in which Eveline somehow managed to deliver in such a short time. (In fairness, she even has a wikipedia page here, which must mean she knows her stuff, right?)

It only added the knowledge we already had from our Assistant Director Kirsty and our writer E V Crowe (the picture below shows but a mere glimpse of the wall of research!)

So we'll continue to keep up the good work. And here's a little sneak preview of the play -
